Brass Pocket Compass - historical nautical-themed gift
This is a basic dry needle compass, similar to those found on vessels prior to the invention of modern liquid-filled versions. As such, it has very little damping and would be very difficult to use at sea - is really more ornamental than practical (though it does work). There is a lever to stop the needle swinging, so that a bearing can be read, and it has a plain brass lid - ideal should you want to personalise this gift with a touching engraving. It's all brass, and lives up to the standard for which Nauticalia have become known.
